Dragging to populate cells

Are you using our SaaS platform (Baserow.io) or self-hosting Baserow?

Self-hosted

What do you need help with?

Hi everyone! I’m new to Baserow but have been an avid user of over other table based software for a long time. It’s been fast for me to set up so far; I’m self hosting on Railway.

But there are a couple of features I’m not seeing, and I wanted to make sure I’m not missing something before I go posting in the feature suggestion community. Perhaps one of you could help me out here?

Drag to populate cells:
Is there a way to drag a cell value down (or across) to quickly populate multiple rows, similar to spreadsheet behavior? Right now it seems like I have to copy and paste into each cell individually, which slows things down quite a bit.

Freezing columns:
Is it possible to freeze columns beyond just the first column?
For wider tables, it would be really helpful to keep a few key fields visible while scrolling horizontally.

Hello @Oti, welcome to the Baserow community :waving_hand:

Both features are already in our pipeline:

The good news is that freezing columns is currently under development and should be released in about two weeks.

Oh, amazing! :tada: Do you have any insight into where drag-to-populate/auto-fill stands in terms of prioritization?

Hi @Oti,

we don’t have an exact date in mind for this yet, but in the meantime you can speed things up a bit: copy a single cell value, then select multiple cells in the column and paste (video attached).

It’s not as fast as drag-to-fill, but it saves you from copying each cell individually.
