# Running the dev environment

Hi @petrs,  
thanks for your reply.  
initially, I wanted to run dev through this command ./dev.sh and I got the error message like “find: The argument to -user should not be empty”.  
Then I used this link [Cannot run the app in dev mode](https://community.baserow.io/t/cannot-run-the-app-in-dev-mode/413) and by using this command cp .env.example .env  
the below environment variables were set:  
SECRET\_KEY=baserow  
DATABASE\_PASSWORD=baserow  
REDIS\_PASSWORD=baserow  
BASEROW\_PUBLIC\_URL=http://localhost  
BASEROW\_CADDY\_ADDRESSES=:80  
WEB\_FRONTEND\_PORT=80  
HOST\_PUBLISH\_IP=0.0.0.0

EMAIL\_SMTP=  
EMAIL\_SMTP\_HOST=  
EMAIL\_SMTP\_PORT=  
EMAIL\_SMTP\_USE\_TLS=  
EMAIL\_SMTP\_USER=  
EMAIL\_SMTP\_PASSWORD=  
FROM\_EMAIL=no-reply@localhost

After that I used this command:  
docker-compose -f docker-compose.yml -f docker-compose.dev.yml up --build

but the above figure error was shown.

My struggling is what the database password is? I mean how should I set it?
