Hi there,

If you’re currently working toward your Baserow Academy certifications, we wanted to give you a quick heads-up.

The Baserow Academy is now live on a new platform. This change gives us more flexibility in how we organize and improve the Academy going forward. To continue your progress, you’ll need to create a new account.

Please note:

  • Any certificates you’ve already earned remain valid
  • Any courses in progress will need to be restarted

We’re sorry that your previous progress couldn’t be carried over, and we appreciate your understanding.

I just tried it out, and honestly, the user experience is really bad. I’m sorry to be so negative, but I’ll list the issues:

  • No translations available—everything is in English. In this age of AI, it’s not hard to translate an LMS’s courses.
  • The LMS’s UI is totally corny! You can’t see a thing, the embedded YouTube videos are ridiculously small—it all feels like a UI designed in 2008. Take inspiration from modern LMS platforms like Teachable or Frappe. It seems like you’re using Thinkifik, and that’s a strange choice… It’s a bad LMS.
  • The certification system is opaque; we don’t understand how it’s organized, we don’t see a directory of certified people, and we don’t know what’s recognized or by whom…

Frankly, it doesn’t make you want to use it!

I can also recommend Classroom, which is fairly new but seems to me to be consistent with Baserow’s open nature

I’ll forward this to the responsible team member, and we’ll see if these glitches can be fixed. Also, we’ll check on language support.

Regarding the certification system, could you clarify what you mean by “a directory of certified people”?

An academy should have a more human touch. When you start a course like this, you want to see the profiles of other people who have already completed it, what they’re doing with Baserow, and so on…
