Are you using our SaaS platform (Baserow.io) or self-hosting Baserow?
Self-hosted
What are the exact steps to reproduce this issue?
Hi everyone,
I’m planning to self-host a Baserow instance for an application I’m building, and I need access to the advanced features. I have a few questions regarding self-hosting and the advanced features license:
How does the self-hosting process work?
After purchasing the advanced features license and registering it on a self-hosted instance, how is the license key validated?
1. What data is transmitted over the network during this validation?
2. Does this process involve any confidential or client-related data being transferred?
Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated!
Hey @piyush23rai, @olgatrykush, you don’t necessarily need an internet connection for the license to be validated. This allows the license to be validated in an Air gapped environment.
Please note that if this is the case, the license does not automatically renew in your self-hosted instance. You would need to export a new license key from your subscription every month or year, depending on payment cycle of your license.
If you do have an outgoing internet connection, then your Baserow instance checks every hour if there is a license update with our license authority server. It sends your license, instance ID, and the number of seats that you’re using to our servers.
We value privacy a lot, hence we’ve made Baserow open source, so no other data is sent to our servers during this process.
