What do you need help with?
Just starting with baserow. I have imported ten tables, originally from an Access database. One is a master table, containing ID numbers which in Access are linked to ID fields in the other nine tables. How do I link them in Baserow? Grateful for any assistance.
Hi @PeterSmith,
Unfortuantely when importing databases, relationships are not imported directly and need to be manually recreated. The easiest way to do this is to copy and paste the values from a text field to a linked table field which will automatically match it to that record. Here’s a very short video demonstrating this:
Bear in mind that if you have a field that has these related IDs and you change that field to a link to table, the values will simply be removed. So be sure to duplicate it first so you maintain the text values so you can copy and apste them to the link to table field.
Many thanks, Colin. Have to say I had a lot of trouble reading the video, even on my large scvreen, but I think I understood it. However when I try to paste into my newly created Link to Table field I get the error
Action not completed.
The action couldn’t be completed because an unknown error has occurred.
What am I doing wrong?
It could be that one of the records doesn’t exist that you are pasting. It’s hard to know for sure without looking at the data or the request being made.
Well yes, some of the fields are deliberately blank. On a related matter, is there an easy way to select all the items in a column? The usual techniques don’t seem to work on long columns.
There is a limitation of selecting 200 rows at a time. This is a decision made for performance reasons. IF you wanted to perform actions for mroe than 200 records at a time, you would need to use the API to do so (and use the batch functionality)
I think I’ve solved that problem - I hadn’t checked that the field types in my imported tables were correct. However I haven’t managed to get the linked data to show up. Is there a written explanation somewhere of the exact steps needed to link tables correctly?
Perhaps you could share a quick video or some screenshots of where you are right now and what exactly you are stuck with and then I can tailor my advice specifically to your exact requirement?
