Mobile-friendly editing

Is there any plan to make Baserow more usable on a smartphone? It’s still really painful to edit a table with one. There is no mention of any improvements forthcoming in the newest blog post.

One only has to use Baserow in iOS Safari for a couple of minutes to run into a whole host of issues:

  • Sidebar can’t be collapsed without a mouse cursor, so it eats a lot of screen space
  • Several types of UI elements require multiple taps to activate
  • Editing a cell may scroll most of the table offscreen
  • Edit modal has sidebar open by default, causing text fields to squish to literally about 24px wide
  • Most of the toolbar controls above the main view render offscreen; scrolling them onscreen scrolls the table offscreen; opening a toolbar menu often renders the menu offscreen

With each update I keep holding out hope for improvements, but it just doesn’t seem like it’s a priority for the team.

Hey @rickyromero, that’s right, we have plans to optimize mobile performance this year. However, it’s not a priority since most people use Baserow on their desktops.

I’ll check with the team about sharing a more precise timeline (at least which quarter) for when we plan to start these improvements. I’ll keep you updated. :raised_hands:

Hi @rickyromero! I wanted to let you know that we’ve added all your suggestions to this issue: Improve mobile friendliness (#690) · Issues · Baserow / baserow · GitLab. These will be prioritized when we begin working on mobile improvements.

To be transparent, we don’t expect to start mobile optimization until the second half of this year, unfortunately.

If anything changes, I’ll let you know. :slightly_smiling_face:
