New Baserow User Seeking Help: How to Link Tables Across Different Databases for Secure Employee Data Access?

Are you using our SaaS platform (Baserow.io) or self-hosting Baserow?

SaaS

What do you need help with?

Hi Baserow Community!

I’m a noob who’s been loving Baserow so far—its flexibility is amazing! However, I’ve hit a roadblock. I have two separate databases/workspaces:

Employee Database: Strictly security-controlled (due to regulatory requirements like GDPR) with limited access.

Other Database: Needs to reference the Employee Database to extract names (e.g., for project assignments or HR workflows).

I can’t find a way to link tables across these databases. The last forum post on this topic is from 2022 and doesn’t address current solutions7.

Ask:

Is cross-database linking possible now? If so, how?

Are there workarounds (e.g., API, plugins, or duplicating data securely)?

Does Baserow plan to support this feature soon?

Any insight would save my sanity!

P.S. Love the platform—this is my only major hurdle so far!

Hi @meltanec, welcome to the community and thanks for the kind words!

There is absolutely a way you can do this using the (relatively) new data sync feature.

  1. Click on new table
  2. Select Sync Baserow table
  3. Select the workspace → database → table you want to sync
  4. Add a new link to table field in the synced table and select the table you want to link to
  5. Done

Let me know if you have any issues with this or need further assistance!
