Check a new digest packed with all the latest updates from the team đź‘€

Hello!

We haven’t talked in a while, and I have a bunch of news I want to share with you. Sit back, relax, and enjoy this digest packed with all the latest updates about Baserow.

Community spotlight

First of all, we want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who participated in the first community contest “Made With Baserow”. We received many great submissions all showcasing unique and creative ways folks are using Baserow. Make sure to check them out, as well as to congratulate the winners here.

Here are some cool new things our community created

:one: @bfranklin started a very important discussion on moving Baserow from GitLab to GitHub.
Make sure to cast your vote on this, as we’re evaluating all the pros and cons right now to make a final decision.
:two: Dominique Silvestre showed how he is using Baserow to automate the team’s payroll process.
:three: Kim-David Nguyen shared a quick guide on how to deploy Baserow on AWS.
:four: SwitchUpCB prepared a detailed guide on how to set up Baserow with SSL.
:five: Marius updated his guide on how to Install Baserow on your Synology NAS (now with the power of the Portainer stack).
:six: Christian Knell built the Baserow Helm Chart so that you can bootstrap your own instance of Baserow on a Kubernetes cluster in seconds.
:seven: Luke Plant wrote a blog post about Django superpowers and described how Baserow works with Python’s run-time type creation. For those who work with Python, worth checking out.

:point_right: By the way, Baserow is hiring!

We went to SOOCon 23 in London

On the 7-8 of Feb, the Baserow team was in London attending SOOCon 23. We absolutely loved meeting so many enthusiasts and talking about topics we care about — the growth of open source software, community, and collaboration.

At the conference, CEO and co-founder Bram joined Product Development Panel & Founder Roundtable with Avi Press from Scarf, Samuel Weaver from Plural, and Leanne Kemp from Everledger.

Here are some of the questions that were discussed:

  • What was the trigger point for what made you actually decide to start a company?
  • What is it about open source software that helped you to create your businesses?
  • What do you think of the difference between what is open source and what is paid in your project?
  • Are you getting that much community engagement in actual collaboration for developing your project? If it’s not a distribution strategy, what else does open source bring to you?
  • How do you engage with a community that doesn’t have technical background/knowledge?
  • What is an end game for open source projects?
  • What happens to software after you get bought? What is a governance strategy for you to make sure it’s always gonna be open source?

:point_right: Watch the recording to find out the answers.

And of course, a massive thank you to all the organizers over at OpenUK

We changed the way we approach release cycles

From now on, we will have a new release every month, so if we are working on some big features you won’t need to wait until they are finished to access other finished updates.

Another great news is that currently Davide is working on the Now() function, and if everything goes as planned it will be published in the upcoming release 1.15 together with some other cool features and updates.
